Fortunately for the customers of some pharmacies, technicians with formal training are the ones that are hired by most pharmacies. Technicians with formal training and certification are known to earn higher pharmacy technician salary than they colleagues with no certification.

The pharmacy technician salary rate is also dependent on the type of training you've had, may it be formal training or not. If you will undertake a formal training, you should go for an associate's degree because this will lead to even better salary rates from your prospective employer. Once you've finished your formal training course, you should seek out your certification from reputable certifying bodies in order to earn even more salary. Being certified is an added qualification that employers value and are willing to offer higher salary in order to attract certified pharmacy technicians.

Qualified pharmacy technicians don't have any problem doing some of the pharmacists' work for them. There are tasks though, that require the pharmacists' professional judgment and these tasks are not meant to be done by technicians. Filling prescriptions is a job technicians can perform because the physician who wrote the prescription has already made the decision on what kind of medicine to use. They do have to make sure the right medicine is what's to be given to the customers. Most technicians definitely deserve the pharmacy technician wage rate they earn.
